Starting From My Cousin's Notebook: I Built a Client Manager for Insurance Agents

She's been in insurance for years, and past a hundred clients things started slipping. I handed her recording habits to AI, shaped them into an interface, and called it Yourly Omamori. The client data never passes through me.

Yourly Omamori: an iOS App that helps insurance agents remember every client

It's been quiet for a while, and now there's finally a new App going up!

The person I helped this time is my cousin. After she saw the automation system I built for my brother, she figured maybe I could help her with some of her own headaches.

She's been in insurance for many years. In this line of work, once the clients pile up, the hardest part is recording and tracking all of their information and status.

What you talked about last time, how many people are in the family, how old the kids are now, when you should check in again. Some of it is in your head, some in a notebook, and the rest is buried in chat logs. With a dozen clients you can still hold it together. Past a hundred, things start slipping.

She used to keep it all in the notes app built into her iPhone. But notes is such a general-purpose format that it isn't shaped around what her work actually needs, so it was a struggle to use.

I only meant to make her a small tool. As I worked on it, I decided to turn it into a real App.

It's called Yourly Omamori.

"Yourly" is a play on my cousin and her husband's names in Chinese, and it also carries the sense of being to the client's advantage. An omamori is a Japanese protective charm. I think insurance is a little like one: it sits there quietly, and only when something actually happens do you find out someone has been watching over you.

What this App does is simple. It helps an insurance agent remember every single client.

I took the documents and formats my cousin gave me, along with her own recording habits, and handed them to AI to work out an interface flow that fits her.

Clients can be grouped, tagged, and given a next contact date. Open the App each day and you see right away who to check in with today, and why.

There's also a "family map" that draws out the relationships inside a client's family. Who is whose wife, whose kids are whose, readable at a glance. Anyone in insurance knows that serving one client is often serving the whole family behind them.

One more thing I insisted on from the very beginning: client data is kept by the user alone, and I never handle it.

All of it lives only on the user's own phone and iCloud. Not a single record goes to a developer's server. Because this App doesn't even have a server XD. A client list is how an agent makes a living. I don't want to touch it, and I shouldn't.

The pricing is straightforward too. Free forever up to 100 clients; past that you need a Pro subscription, NT$350 a year. If you ever stop renewing, the data you've already saved won't be locked away.

It's finally on the App Store.

My last App was built to solve a need of my own. This one started from helping someone close to me.

If you have friends in insurance, feel free to tag them or share this with them. I'd also like to know how frontline agents manage their clients day to day. Whatever is most annoying for you right now might turn into a feature in the next version.

If you have any suggestions or run into any problems, you're welcome to reach me through the built-in form. I'll reply and fix things as soon as I can. Thanks!
